Project Educate: An Interview with EliseEnchantedProject Educate: An Interview With EliseEnchanted EliseEnchanted has one of those galleries that is breath-takingly beautiful. Her work spans several genres and many categories here on deviantART but she is well known for her stunning and colourful macros. I was lucky enough to catch her for an interview some time ago and here are the results…1) If you could bring one deceased legendary artist back to the current time, who would it be and why them?I can't really think of one. I think I want to bring them all back alive because I think I could learn from all of them.2) Who or what inspired you to take on the art form that you focus in?One day I was walking home from work and I saw this amazing sunset, with beautiful light rays. And I was thinking: if only I could capture this moment to show it to others. That's where I decided I wanted to be in photography. I bought a camera 2 months after
Community Volunteers - A Memoir! You may recently have seen -> Our Favourite Memories and Moments an awesome article written by fourteenthstar bringing together lots of dA staff members memories and moments. So The Community Volunteers got chatting and we decided we needed our own collection of memories - because we have some awesome ones! With the merge of the Gallery Moderators and MN@ Volunteers has come the collaboration of one BIG team and it's lovely getting to know the 'other side' so to speak. So it's with great delight that I share our massive response to fourteenthstar's article with Community Volunteers - Our Memories BurgerBunny:iconBurgerBunny:I cannot pick a single memory, but I would say that whenever someone tells me that the DD I gave them made their day and that they are so happy makes me smile. That, and the time I saw MyntKat's butt on webcam.Halatia
Community Projects - UpdateHi! I'm Hunter, your "new" Community Projects volunteer! I hope our time together will be awesome and productive, and to further this goal I've prepared this... um... brief update to let you all know of some changes coming to the Community Projects gallery, and how we're going to continue in 2012! So here we go! Changes to Community Projects So this year we're going to do things a bit differently. My primary goal as Community Projects CV is to support you, the community. Community Projects doesn't exist solely to run our own projects, we're primarily here to help you out with yours. If you want to run a Project, read this article, as it will explain things in greater detail, and then send a note to haldron. If you know of an awesome project, and you think we should know about it too, link it here! Category Changes/Additions In the past, we added a lot of categories to Community Projects each year, which ended up cre
Self Harm Awareness day 1st March 2012 Today marks an awareness day over a subject that can mean many things to many people. Self Harm (or Self Injury) is the act of physical damage to oneself, usually as a coping strategy for expressing deep distress or coping in difficult situations. Self harm commonly is associated with cutting, but can also refer to any physical damage to the self including burning, hitting, taking overdoses, swallowing chemicals, bleaching, hair pulling ( trichotilliomania), scratching and so forth. You may know what it is, but it is often the reasons why that people are not familiar with. There is still this belief and stereotype surrounding the type of person likely to harming them-self, but the truth is, it could be anyone no matter what gender, culture or age. The reasons behind self harm can be such a huge variety- different people cope in different ways with different distresses. Such issues that may trigger self harm might be bullying, t
Message Center Performance Upgrades Message Center news to know!Today we completed a three-month process of implementing performance upgrades to the Message Center. With these improvements in place, we're able to increase site speed and decrease the amount of errors deviants may experience in their Message Centers. Our Devious Technology and Tech Ops teams have been working hard to move Message Center data to its own dedicated database cluster. We made a considerable investment in servers with 96GB of memory and 12 CPU cores to handle 6 billion messages and 6500 queries per second. What does this mean for you? Absolutely nothing. We hope. The upgrades have already taken place and you shouldn't notice any change in your normal deviantART experience. Eventually, you should notice an increase in site speed and a decrease in Message Center errors. If we do run into hiccups, you may experience slowness and possib

This will help your tickets
Daily Deviations UpdateHappy Monday Morning I started this morning by signing something "Moonbam13" so either this typo means I need more coffee, or this week is going to be BAMTASTIC!I'm rooting for the latter I wanted to post a quick update on changes to Daily Deviations. It is important to note that these changes have not been hard-coded so my team is manually following these new guidelines. This means that errors can and likely will occur until the coding is complete, your patience and understanding is appreciated The following guideline changes are in effect: The 3-month rule is now the 6-month rule, meaning that it must be at least 6-months since the last time an artist received a daily deviation. (This was an overwhelmingly popular suggestion from the community and I agree, it's a good one!) Daily deviation selectors may only select one daily deviation per day maximum. This has been put in place to focus on Quality vs Quantity.

Photography Weekly Edition FourteenPhotography Weekly Header created by TouchedD"Take Only Photographs, Leave Only Footprints." - Urban Explorers Creed Sometimes it's easy to forget the things around us that were once iconic and useful. In everyday life that could include a multitude of household objects, bits and bobs, clothes, gadgets - all sorts. But in Photography - a specific aspect of Photography - people close doors and board up buildings sometimes with little or no notice. They erect a fence around that old asylum and ship everything out or they install security guards at the boundaries of an army camp. Those places get forgotten and one day there will be nobody left that will remember them. That's where Urban Exploration comes in.I'm not telling you to go out and scale the wall of your nearest derelict hospital in the name of photography. It takes a certain kind of person (and agility!) to do that anyway, but there are many depths to U
February Holidays, Events and Awareness Issue:iconcommunityrelations: communityrelations :iconcommunityrelations: FEBRUARY ISSUE OF HOLIDAYS, AWARENESS AND EVENTS February is the month that usually gets short-changed, since it only has 28-days. This year, however, it has a "leap" day! The added day every four-years is done in order to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical or seasonal year. So, does that mean anyone born on February 29th in a leap year only ages a year for every four years he/she is alive? February is the second month of the year in the
Photography Weekly: Edition ThirteenPhotography Weekly Header created by TouchedD"The quickest way to make money from Photography is to sell your camera" Noticeably in the past few weeks, more and more people seem to be speaking up and making noise at the fact that aren't making money from their photography. There's no doubt about it - Photography starts out as a hobby. You don't one day pick up a camera and decide that you are going to be a pro and get given your first paycheck. It's one of those unique hobbies where you get a gentle introduction around age 10 with your first proper camera (haha) and the rest is History. Whatever you make it really. You can't say that about most professions.Putting yourself out there is something I've been trying to hammer home the past week, you'll have noticed my ramble if you read last weeks edition of Photography weekly. Getting paid for it is another matter. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices. Sometimes, you might not get paid for what you do.

Photography Weekly: Edition TwentyPhotography Weekly Header created by TouchedD"It's not always easy to stand aside and be unable to do anything except record the sufferings around one. - Robert Capa"The Pulitzer Prize Winning Photos were announced this week and with it a debate was sparked about how best to display the controversial winners. The winning shot is Photo-journalism at it's best - and indeed humanity at its worst. The image depicts a young Afghan girl standing in the midst of the after effects of a bomb explosion. She is covered in blood, and around her lay bodies. Whilst the publication of graphic images has been a tough and much debated topic for some time - the very taking of such photos has sparked cynicism and unrest between many. Photo-journalists much of the time take their lives into their own hands when they document the horrors of this

Art We Heart: LoveArt We ♥ is a hand-selected art feature, chosen by deviantART staff members, showcasing art we believe the community will enjoy.:iconestunt: Some thoughts from Matt (mattdanna)With Valentine's Day right around the corner, the word "love" is in no short supply. Stores are trying to get you to buy everything from chocolates and jewelry to vacation getaways for that special someone in your life. As someone who's been notoriously single on Valentine's Day, the L word starts to sound like nails on chalkboard leading up to the days before February 14th. Nevertheless, I thought it would be neat to explore art depicting different types of love.In Greek culture, there are several different words for "love": philía, storgē, agápe, and éros. The Greek language distinguishes the different ways "love" is used. Philía is the type of love and affection you feel with friends and community.

Devious Minds: TopicalityDiscovering what makes us devious.Topicality :iconTopicality:How did you first discover deviantART? I was looking at art online when I was young, and saw loish's work, it eventually led me to deviantART. I lurked for a while, then eventually joined! What was it about dA that made you want to stay? I wanted to post my artwork... however once I discovered chats, I learned about GMs (now CV's) and Daily Deviation suggesting. I had and continue to have the loving support that keeps me here, along with my ability to find and collect beautiful artwork- Tis it is all about the art! What is the story behind your username? At one point I wanted to do debate in high school, but I've gone off to do other things. I was thinking of good user names and was playing with a random word generator. It came up with the word Topicality, a word I remembered was used in debate. It's used in debate when one is g
