This week Kaz-D and myself are bringing you an overview of the Photography Galleries on deviantART. This won't replace the full weeks planned by the specific community volunteers for specific galleries - but instead it will help to give you a mini introduction into what's out there.

Photographing Architecture - Tips

:bulletblack: Using a small aperture (a larger number) will allow you to get a better depth of field and have a better sharpness throughout the image, using a lower ISO will also reduce the amount of noise and make your shots crisper. However, you'll now need a slower shutter speed to allow more light in, so you may need to use a tripod depending on how bright your surroundings are.

:bulletblack: Walk around the building if possible. Look at the shapes, angles and use the light to your advantage. What will make people like your photo over somebody else's of the same building? Give it your own twist.

:bulletblack: Rearrange the immediate environment if needed. Look around for rubbish or obstructions that may need moving out of the way.

:bulletblack: Use compositional techniques. These will help make a visually pleasing, strong image. You can check out some compositional techniques in this article.

:bulletblack: If you are planning to shoot at night, you only have a short period of time before the sky turns completely black and the buildings tend to merge into it. The sky will stay a dark blue colour for around 30 minutes before this happens, leaving a perfect, but short, period of time to get some striking shots.

:bulletblack: If you find an architectural piece on deviantART that you believe deserves a Daily Deviation, you can note it to FritsPlays who looks after the Architecture gallery.
